You could use CSS to split it into two columns:

It is possible to use multiple carousels on one page and then it is not clear which carousel should move, when you hit a button. This is why you cannot control the carousel with the keys.

I made it work.

I did not polish the example but you will get the idea:

You need a big image next to it. Otherwise the Thumbnail will behave differently.

It can also be a narrow, height, white bar as JPG.

Then you might need to adjust some things. But I think this is the way I would go.

the plugin won't work because it used different jQuery languages like in Laytheme.

I think you won't get it to work – unless you go into the code. Which is rather difficult. I don't know how to run that plugin in a specific row.
