as far as I know all calender plugins work with Custom Post Types.
With Laytheme this is not possible yet.

@f-albert thanks for fixing this problem. We can select the project thumbnail and place it in the category page. Sometimes if we update the category page, some of the thumbnails with a mouseover image are disappearing from the page. But if we update these projects with the mouseovers, they are appearing again. So there are still some bugs but we can work with it and build the website. Thanks for your help.

This is not really possible.

You could use CSS with blending modes:

But they don't get supported by all browsers.

Best is to use prepared images.

not that is not possible.

But you can design the project pages very minimal. That they actually look like a lightbox. With Fullscreen Slider for example.
