website not loading on iphone safari
-
hey @arminunruh, my website won't load on iphone safari: alasdairdimmick.com. Screenshot attached. Any idea why?
-
yea unfortunately the recent version of safari has created issues
i have seen the same problem with a website made with cargo
the issue is currently iOS safari crashes when there are too many elements on one page. you have many many overlay element on your frontpage. this makes the website crash.

@arminunruh ah okay thanks for explaining. Yeah, I have many overlays! hmm so not much we can do then until Safari sorts it themselves? Pretty big bug considering how many people use iphones... I suppose on my end I'll need to reduce the amount of overlays?
I noticed a post here: http://laythemeforum.com:4567/post/35502
you mentioned you tried to fix it in an update, did anything come from that?On a client website which is close to launching is using overlays (not as many as on my personal one) and it loads most of the website okay until it goes to the page with the overlays and it loads for a few seconds and then crashes. Surely Safari are aware of this?
I've submitted an email mentioning this bug at apple.com/feedback, hopefully it helps.
Update: So I got my friend to speak to Apple on my behalf as he has an iphone and an account which provides one to one support. The apple support person went through some troubleshooting to sort it but nothing worked and ultimately asked to check if the website code is okay again. I've gone and just disabled the overlays sadly :( as my and my client's websites need to run on iphones. Also I noticed it also occurs on iphone chrome so it seems to be an iOS issue... if there is anything else you could check Armin that would be fantastic, thanks.

Surely Safari are aware of this?
Not sure, i mean also the carousel always worked fine, suddenly when you have lots and lots of carousel images and the transition is type none, safari crashes
if you just use 1 or two overlays for a page it seems to work fine
i have no idea why this doesn't work properly atm :|, safari seems to crash really fast compared to previous versions

@arminunruh thanks Armin that's good to know, I'll be sure to use less overlays on one page to avoid this bug. Hopefully in future versions it'll be okay.
Would it be at all possible to have an option to disable overlays for mobile? No worries if too much hassle.

mmh lets wait a little bit until the next ios and thus next safari ios update, maybe this will fix it
