    Hey,

I've been using laytheme for a while and recently I've had a few clients message me saying my website has not been working properly or the navigation doesn't load.

I've tried all the tips and tricks to speed up the site / sort out the navigation problem and installed all the plugins etc but I still can not solve this issue.

I would be really grateful if someone could take a look at my site and maybe point me in the right direction.

    My website is www.jayrussell.co.uk

    Thanks alot,

    Jay

      great website!

      it loads for me!

usually websites are on shared servers and those can get quite slow sometimes

so when lots of people visit your website or any other website that is on the same shared server, your website can have problems loading because at that moment its running out of computing power to load all these websites

for example when i released lay theme many years ago, lots of people went to laytheme.com and then sometimes the website just wouldn't load until i got more powerful hosting

so one way to fix this would be to upgrade your hosting plan if you like

      look i wrote this tutorial
      https://laytheme.com/tutorials/make-your-website-load-instantly-and-manage-your-own-server.html

following that tutorial might be too much though,
probably would be easier to ask your webhost if they can give you a more powerful hosting plan

what is your webhost and what is your hosting plan?
with plan i mean for example,
      here https://www.greengeeks.com/web-hosting

there is light, pro and premium

        Hey armin,

        thanks for your speedy reply!

The main issue with the site is when using the navigation / menu. Click on let's say 'film' or 'selected projects' and the page not loading at all until I refresh the page.

I read through the tutorial for a server, that is pretty incredible how fast you can make a website using that method. I currently just use 'bluehost' I don't know what tier but I think the most basic as I just have 1 website & generally I do not have lots of visitors definitely not anything I thought would slow down a site, rarely 3 or 4 people using the site at the same time based on my analytics.

What webhost would you recommend? I can try that and see if it solves the issue!

mmh when i click on film or selected projects

it loads for me, at a normal speed

but i see when im here
          https://jayrussell.co.uk/

when my window is a certain size, i cannot click on "selected projects"

just nothing happens when i click on it!

          oh i know why

its because the frontpage and the menupoint "selected projects" is actually the same page (just a different URL)

both pages are the category page https://jayrussell.co.uk/selected-projects/

because you dont have an active menu point style people think they can click on "selected projects" and will be taken there, even though they are already on that page from the beginning

i'd advise you to go here: customize → menu style → menu point active → underline strokewidth:
          set it to 1px

other than that all of your pages load at a good normal speed for me
