overlay feature cannot be activated
-
Hi,
I want to create a burger menu following the tutorial I found here: https://laytheme.com/tutorials/create-a-desktop-burger-menu-or-info-overlay.html
But my current issue is, that I can't seem to follow this tutorial because I do not have the possibility to activate the overlay feature:What could be the root of this issue?
I thought it might me due to an old version of Lay Theme, but the Admin of the institution I am working for told me there are no updates available in their Dashbord right now. This following screenshot shows the version I am currently working with - I don't quite know if its Version 3.2.3 or 6.5.5 but looking at the Lay Theme Version history both are now outdated, right? So I am wondering why no updates seem to be available in the Dashboard. Could the issue also stem from missing Addon Updates? Is there any other way to create a burger menu? I generally am struggling with creating a simple Drop Down Menu with some kind of Icon that functions as the "navigation knot".
Thanks for your help!!!

Hey, your laytheme is definitely outdated. The version number should be at least 7 when you click on the theme in 'appearance', the number in the bottom right needs updated on mine as well as mine says 6 rather than 7.

Are you using a license key? You may need to use one in order for new updates to become available. When you have a newer version installed you'll have overlay option available.

Thanks @alasdair17!
Yes, I am working with a license key, but no option to update is displayed in my dashboard.

@janawodicka ah okay nice, I think you should try and upload a new laytheme file - it won't overwrite your work. If you go to laykeymanager.com you can download the latest version, although this website sometimes doesn't work for me but armin has provided a direct link here to download a newer version which will allow for overlays here:

let me know how you get on

when I say upload a new laytheme file I mean if you go to:
Appearance > Themes > Add new theme > Upload lay.zip

Hi again,
unfortunately, I don’t have the permissions to upload the new lay.zip myself, as I only have a standard user login and am not an administrator. However, the person with admin rights uploaded the new lay.zip today, and now we’re experiencing major issues with the websites we had already built using the previous version.
Can you help us identify the problem and suggest how we can fix this? Thanks und best regards

can you send your website address, /wp-admin/ username and password and a link to this topic to info@laytheme.com?
the latest versions of lay theme should be compatible with other prior versions.
however, like 2 years ago i re-coded the frontend completely.
this caused custom css to not work sometimes.you can always download prior versions on www.laykeymanager.com
if there is a problem with the current version
