Retain Place-Freely position when adding elements on top
-
wait a few days for the new "horizontal grid" setting! im working on it at the moment
take a look at the story on www.instagram.com/laytheme
using a horizontal grid, elements can be positioned quite freely, however, they will still be bound to rows, so when you insert rows on top, they will move down
-
Thanks Armin. I just saw the new permanent Layer window. If I change the order of images (non "place-freely ones) does it affect their z-index?
-
yes it will

@arminunruh Thank you so much for the Horizontal Grid / Layer Updates. That is sooo helpful!
-
im happy you like it! :))

Hi, i am also using horizontal grid and place freely at my index page, had no problems till mid of last year. Now I can't put new rows on top, every new blank row will be added at the bottom. is there a new bug?
-
hey so if your images are "place freely"
then if you add a row on top, it wont actually change the position of the place freely items. it will only add a row.can you check if this is the case for u please
-
hey Armin, thanks for your reply.
Yes, I can add new rows and the position / layout of the project thumbnails aren't changing. that's fine.
The problem is that the new rows are not placed at the top or in between, but always at the end of the page. So it isn't possible to put new stuff on top without dragging every existing item / picture manually down to make room. -
are all of these items "place freely" items?
items that are "place freely" are not bound to any row, if you add a new row it doesn't have any effect on the placement of the "place freely" items
you can use horizontal grid instead https://laytheme.com/documentation/horizontal-grid.html#ajax-container
or i think you may be able to select all elements at once and drag them down a bit at once.
select the first element of your layout, scroll down, hit shift and select the last element. now all elements should be selected and you can drag all of them down at once -
The tip selecting all elements and drag them down worked.
Thank you very much for your help!
