category filter logic
-
are you presuming that with this feature,
we can choose 2 different categories in the thumbnailgridthen we see all project thumbnails of these 2 different categories
then i click on one to open it
and then you presume using the previous / next navigation between the projects will go through all the projects that are part of these 2 categories?
-
mh but a project can have multiple categories.
how should it know, especially when you would be able to click on 2 categories in the filter?
-
ah you mean if the project had only one category?
-
but you do know when u have this setting enabled
that prev and next will go through the projects of the category that the project has right

Hey Armin,
sorry, I think I posted my question a little too hastily. After a long break, I had been tinkering with our website, and I remembered that jumping between projects in the same category only works if you access the project via a grid page that has been filtered by that category beforehand. But that's obviously nonsense, and I'm testing it again now.Regarding the category filter: it would be nice to have an option similar to the tag filter that allows projects from multiple categories to be displayed (e.g., projects from the “Lectures” category and from the “Publications” category).
Thanks again!

that is true though too!

ok!!

ok so i was just starting to work on this but then i wondered, why do you need this functionality? could you not just use tags?

Hi Armin,
I'm coming back to this topic: Yes, I'm now simply using the tag filter.
But my actual problem is a different one: I would like to have next/prev buttons under the projects that lead to the next project in the same category. Unfortunately, this is not currently working, even though I have activated "Projects of same category" in the Lay options. As I understand it, this should mean: projects that belong to the same category (e.g., all projects that belong to both the "All" category and the "News" category).
The topic of the category filter only came up because I mistakenly thought that filtering the thumbnail grid by category would have an influence on the next/prev buttons.
The current test version of the site can be found here: http://rimu.richtermusikowski.com -

hey sebaster so as i can see your projects have multiple categories:
they always have ALL, and news, or all and projects:
or alle and news
or all and projectswhen you use the setting "go through projects of same category"
if your projects have multiple categories, of course lay theme doesnt know which category to pick, so it just picks the first one, which is probably "Alle" or "All" and goes through projects of that category.however, if you use a project thumbnail grid
and you use the category filter, then it will use the category that was filtered.
it will then prev/next through projects of the same category based on that filterIt would work the way you set it up if you would only have 1 category per project.
So i would suggest you rename your categories "Alle" and "All" to for example "News" and "News"
then remove the current News categories.
Because you cant simply remove the "Alle" and "All" categories, cause those are the standard, undeletable
Then make sure the projects have the correct categories applied. But then the next issue is, for the project thumbnail grid element,
we can only choose one category to show the project thumbnails of.
Im working on a setting so you'll be able to just show all projects in a thumbnailgrid instead of having to choose category now -
ok so the next update will include this setting:
still need to test it more though
-
of course! i will keep working on it today and when i release the update i let u know
-
could you please try this version of lay theme?
its the new version that contains that new setting. but i havent released it yet.
i tested it a lot but i want to test it more.
cause i had to change quite a lot about the thumbnailgrid to make this work, and its a really important part of lay themewould be cool if you could test it out and let me know if everything still works correctly

Hi Armin,
everything looks fine from my perspective. I adjusted the category assignment so that all projects now have only one category and are no longer part of the ALL/ALLE categories, and then changed the default setting to ‘Show all projects’. Now all projects are shown in the thumbnail grid as expected and the Next/Prev navigation within the project categories works perfectly.
I created a new project in the News category in German and English, and it appears directly in the thumbnail grid. The only sorting option now is ‘Order in Project Overview’, but this also works well; the order adjusted in the Project Overview is transferred 1:1 to the thumbnail grid.
You are welcome to use the access data sent by email and test it yourself if you like. We will not be active there again until Monday evening.Sebastian

amazing! yes when i look at it on your site, it works fine now with the new change
would you like a functionality also where its possible to only choose one tag at a time?
cause im not sure if it makes sense for your use case to be able to choose multiple tags
why dont u just use the category filter instead of the tag filter?
-
Hi Armin,
right now we prefer to use the tag filter: it offers more options than the category filter. We like the fact that several tags can be selected at the same time, e.g. if you want to get an overview of lectures/exhibitions/publications (=public relations, some of these tags are currently still missing). I tried to explain that here already: http://laythemeforum.com:4567/post/44358...

ah ok i understand!

Hi, not sure, if this fits right now. But since the last Update I did 3 days ago, on my Project-Page the thumbnail-grid does not show up in gridder, (or backend view) ... online it is there, but I am not able to change anything, since it is not loading in the backen.
Other smaller grids on other pages load. I also created a fully new page and re-build my project-overview-page, but as soon as I save or publish, the grid cannot be seen in the grid again. (i found a tiny pixel whhere I can double click it, but still, it won't sho the thumbnails.)is it possible this is connected with new implementations?
I also code custom websites or custom Lay features.
