Why do text boxes not keep the style of existing text?

It's driving me insane. If I edit text or add more text to an existing text box it reverts to "default" instead of matching the style of the text before it. Why is it doing this?

ah i see how this can be annoying, and you are right, this should be the default behaviour

if you update lay theme now, it should work

it seems like the texteditor that comes with wordpress doesn't have this default behaviour, but i coded a custom plugin for the texteditor to make this work
