    Hello Armin,

just noticed that from my last updates, when editing a project I can select only one category instead of the standard multiple options. Basically instead of a select option it is a radio button now.

I don't know if it's a Lay Theme bug or something else, had to ask to check what it might be...
    All Plug Ins are deactivated.

    Thanks for your feedback!
    ciao, Matteo

Hey matteo, yeah I changed this because of "project arrows". When you click an arrow to to go to the next project, the next project should be of the same category. But what if a project is a member multiple categories? Then it's not clear what the next project is.

That's why you can only choose one category now.

I know this can be a backwards compatibility problem if you are using multiple category overviews and you want to show one project in two different category overviews. When you are editing a category overview however, only the members of this category are shown when you click "+Projects". Are you having this problem?

Why would you like to use multiple categories for one project?
        Have a nice day

          Hi Armin,
          thank you for your answer!

that is actually quite a huge backwards compatibility problem for us, we are using the theme for structuring radio events and shows in a quite complex structure, now basically the whole structure needs to be changed / re-thought or the theme changed (with a complete re-design) 0.0

          http://www.cashmereradio.com/
the home page/events-page is one main category, the "events" are projects, and all have also multiple categories determined by the shows, playing in that event. Example of a show: http://www.cashmereradio.com/category/acid-shampoo/ – as you see this gives us almost a little CMS, functionality. This is all gone without multiple categories :(

Do you think it's possible to re-activate in some way the multiple categories functionality?
Like: "if the project arrows are not active".
          That would be great!

thank you very much for your amazing work, ciaociao!

Ah ok, I see the problem there. Ok, yeah that's a good idea, the categories should only be radiobuttons instead of checkboxes when project arrows is active. Gonna work on that now.

@arminunruh Just realized this radio buttons update which is in deed clever but it breaks websites which are made under a structure like this :

                  • WORK (all the projects)
                  • CATEGORY1 (projects from WORK with specific category)
                  • CATEGORY2 (projects from WORK with specific category)
                  • …

Would it be possible to make a special category where all the projects are put automatically ? Like this if we click on a project we can see it and then browse between the projects of this category…

Or maybe the project could just loop between all the projects depending on their ID and not depending from categories.

                  Thank you.

So what you are saying is you would like the project arrows to navigate through all projects. Instead of just through the projects of the current category. Hm. Right now thats not possible but I could make an option for that one day!

                      Dear Armin,

First of all thank you for making Lay, it's an outstanding theme.

I was wondering if the option to check multiple categories has been disabled again in recent updates: i have 1.7.1 installed but I only see radio buttons (and not checkboxes) either with project arrows disabled or enabled.

Specifically what I'd need to do would be to assign more than a category, occasionally, to a single project. What am I getting wrong?

                      Many thank in advance!
                      Enrico

                        Hey Enrico, thx a lot!

I decided to only make it possible to have one category for a project.

The problem was that people wanted it to be possible that a "next project link" always goes to the next project of the same category. But if a project has multiple categories, that option wouldn't work.

You can still add any project of any category to a category overview (to the gridder when editing a category. Would that be enough for you or is something not working right because you cannot assign multiple categories? Do you want to assign multiple categories to have a better overview in the backend? Or is it something specific to the website (frontend)?

                          Ciao Armin,

Thank you so much, the explanation makes pretty much sense ;)

It's perfectly ok regarding the front-end, yes it was something to have a "proper" categorization of hybrid projects in the back end – no worries though, it's not an issue at all.

                          warmest, e

                            Hey Armin,

Now with the "Thumbnail Grid" would be good to have an option to can have multiple categories in order to be able to "filter" projects automatically. Let me know if it makes sense.

                            Thanks!

Hi @arminunruh, I just discovered lay theme a few weeks ago and I have to say is awesome!

We are creating a museum and gallery website using lay theme and this feature @man said is what we miss to filter and relate artworks to artists easily instead of manually.

                              Thanks in advance
