Changing an already built website that base on wordpress to LayTheme
-
Hello there, we are studio Tamar Bar-Dayan
we have just found LayTheme and were very impressed by it's simplicity and beautiful (and still custom-made) results.
Therefor we are interested of changing our wordpress cased website (www.tamarbd.com) theme to laytheme. We have a couple of questions before purchasing. hope you can help us.
- as you can see, we already have our content inside wordpress.
how this transition of the themes will work? we will need to shift our content inside laytheme from our website to laytheme? - is there any "preview" mode of laytheme? i'm asking that to know how changes are working with laytheme, can we work on an offline site that shows our website and his content with laytheme? whats the way to work with still having an online working website and and at the same time building and changing our website on laytheme?
Thanks in andvance,
looking forward for your help and hopefully making a nice laytheme based website.Ran

Hello Tamar!
I think it would be good for you to create your website locally on your computer using maybe mamp https://www.mamp.info
You could also create your new website on a subdomain of your current website like new.tamarbd.com
Maybe that is easier. You would have to insert all of your content of the current website into the lay theme website by hand. For example you would need to create projects and put your images inside.
When your new lay theme website is finished, you would need to move that website to tamarbd.com.
I wrote a little explanation here about how to move a lay theme website: http://laytheme.com/documentation.html#moving-websiteThis may be a bit hard to do if you haven't moved a website before and I was thinking to create a video tutorial about that one day.
If you want to recreate your website so that it looks the same as right now, I think maybe lay theme would not be the right choice. There is no built in support for a menu that has sections like your menu for example.
If you like I can send you a test account login so you can try the theme a bit and then you can make your decision if you want to buy it.
Before you post:
- When using a WordPress Cache plugin, disable it or clear your cache.
- Update Lay Theme and all Lay Theme Addons
- Disable all Plugins
- Go to Lay Options → Custom CSS & HTML, click "Turn Off All Custom Code", click "Save Changes"
This often solves issues you might run into
When you post:
- Post a link to where the problem is
- Does the problem happen on Chrome, Firefox, Safari or iPhone or Android?
- If the problem is difficult to explain, post screenshots / link to a video to explain it
