There's another thread about (what I think) is the same issue, and a solution that seems to work:

Hi @nypaloto, thanks for looking. I have already checked that, but uploading the “wpml-config.xml” did nothing. I still have the same 4 standard string translations from Wordpress and nothing else.

I’m trying to figure out what the problem is (unfortunately, I’m not very experienced in web development), but if @ArneRobot’s solution is somehow different, I would love to hear it. Thanks all!

@mariusjopen I have solved this problem with the help of the "Polylang" support team. So if anybody wants to use "Polylang" with "LayTheme" to the full extend you can hit me up to get the solution. It might be a bit too individual to post it here but it is fairly easy. Most functionality works out of the box and "Polylang" is a cool plugin for translations!

hi there! i am having a problem with polylang as well. it works properly with building a new site for each language and a new menue, which i believe is the way to do it. (?)
the only problem is that i need to refresh the current page each time otherwise it jumps back and displays the page i was on before. Anyone can help?

this is the page im talking about

Hi! I'm having the same problem! I cannot find the frontpage_select_page string in the Strings Translations. Did you find a solution for this? Thanks a lot!

Hi @ArneRobot, I use the laytheme also with the polylang plugin. I am not sure whether it is working properly as I have to rebuild each page after I hit the + (create a translation) button. Did you also have to put each picture, text box by hand again and then from there translate it on your own?

Hey, @danielhager. this might belong to another thread, but you can solve this by simply copying your pages in the original language and set them as the translation afterwards.
            Greetings, Robert

@ArneRobot Could you please also share your solution with me.
I'm going nuts with this one.

I can't display a translation of the home page and the footer.
This is especially annoying because this is super bad SEO wise!

              Thank You!!

so to understand correctly, the problem is when you click on the site title / your logo, it always goes back to the wrong language right?

yea lemme see if i can reproduce this and fix it
