Click on active menu point to go back to landing page

Hello!
I have a script to go back to my landing page when clicking on an active menu point. Problem is, that it is a hard refresh and not a smooth change of content, like when you use a data-id as link. The script looks like this:

 <script>
 jQuery(document).on("click", ".current-menu-item", function(event) {
 document.location.href="/";
 });
 </script>

I can't figure out how to make it smooth.
