wordpress update

hi!
i'm taking over my website, that was designed by a friend with Lay Theme on an old wordpress version. it's currently running under the WP 5.1.9 version. I'd like to update my WP to the newest 5.7.1 (in order to use elementor on some other pages). do you think i could do the update, without loosing my website?

Updating Wordpress is recommended and you will not loose data. If you ever feel there is a risk with a website it is good practice to make backups before proceeding.
However i would advise about having both Elementor and Laytheme installed on the same site as they will most likely clash with each other and cause a lot of bugs.

Before you post:
- When using a WordPress Cache plugin, disable it or clear your cache.
- Update Lay Theme and all Lay Theme Addons
- Disable all Plugins
- Go to Lay Options ā Custom CSS & HTML, click "Turn Off All Custom Code", click "Save Changes"
