    Hi everyone,

I am planning to use the Lay Theme template for our new site. We are a small record label/music company. Before purchasing the Lay Theme template and starting to invest some time or custom dev into it - I will need to assess the feasibility of some of the features we want to put in place.

After reviewing the documentation of the template - It seems that most of our site requirements can be covered in standard.

However, as per the nature of our site and activity, we will need these two key features:

    • audio player/widget which will be custom dev
    • e-commerce to sell some music - with the usage of the WooCommerce plugin

As per the specificities of an audio player and in order to have continuous music playing through it while browsing on different pages of the site: there is a need for Ajax which Lay Theme does support. This is key for the navigation to be async (ajax) will that will update some of the main pages container without a full refresh, keeping the playback of the audio player across pages.

I was in touch with Armin to assess more the feasibility that let me know these important aspects, Ajax will be disabled if:

    • Woocommerce is active
    • You use a shortcode on a page
    • You enable lay options -> compatibility mode

So it seems it's most likely not possible for us to use the Lay Theme for our site project as we wouldn't be able to implement both audio player and E-commerce which stands as core requirements for our site development and project.

As it seems Lay Theme seems to match all our other requirements - do you know if there is any workaround I can consider at this stage, even via some custom dev?

Many thanks for your help and feedback.
    Best

        Dear Paul

        @paul-oxe

I think you and Armin are correct that difficulties will arise in the area's you have stated. On Modern browsers Audio cannot play automatically and has to be voluntarily turned on by the user (something to keep in mind, maybe you are aware of this).

" do you know if there is any workaround I can consider "

What is the exact workaround needed? That an Audio player works continuously without any hard page reloads?

I would always put Woocommerce as the priority given its complicated and then work from there getting Audio to work.

Best wishes Paul and thank you for considering Lay Theme for your future project 🌝

Thank you very much Richard. If Lay theme would restrict us using Ajax for our audio player, then the alternative would be for us to use the LayGridder plugin only https://laygridder.com/ with another template which could help us managing our site page layouts as I found it your gridder particularly well done.

Does the plugin is supported by any type of wordpress templates?

On your LayGridder site, you indicate the following sites using the plugin but apparently not the LayTheme template:
          https://atelier-fanelsa.de/
          https://lucasgarrido.com/
          http://sebastianhaslauer.com/

For the 3 of them, they have some "image hover" with clickable links, similar to the addon you have with the LayTheme:
          https://laytheme.com/media/addons/imagehover/imagehover_1280x720_3.mp4

Can you please confirm if I will be able to do these image hover with the LayGridder plugin only? This was one other important aspect that made me look at using LayTheme initially ;)

            Dear Paul

@paul-oxe Thanks for the reply 🌝

            Question 1:

"is the Plugin supported by any type of wordpress templates?"

On the 100k Studio website is stated: LayGridder is a Layout Plugin for WordPress. It can be used in combination with any WordPress Theme.

Im quite sure most Theme's will support the use of Laygridder as long as they allow Shortcodes or adding PHP.

            https://laygridder.com/documentation.html#showing-grid-on-frontend

            Question 2:

Can you please confirm if I will be able to do these image hover with the LayGridder plugin only?

Unfortunately you cannot use the Imagehover Addon with other Themes. Im sure there are similar Imagehover plugins available that you could use - or custom coding if you were up for it!

Hope this helps you further with decisions @paul-oxe & best wishes ✨

Many thanks again for your response and kind help Richard.
Then, I will be using LayGridder as initially thought for our site content/layouts.

In regards to the image hover, it is a pity this is not included in it but let's see what workaround can be considered ;)

Are you aware of any similar imagehover plugins?

                Dear Paul

                @paul-oxe

Hope you had a good weekend, I haven'y found a specific plugin but these links may help you in your search. Searching via "Imagehover" doesn't work as i can relate to many things. I would suggest hunting with "Image reveal on hover" instead.

                https://tympanus.net/codrops/2018/11/27/image-reveal-hover-effects/

                https://stackoverflow.com/questions/54449307/reveal-image-on-link-hover-with-transition

                https://jquery-plugins.net/image-reveal-hover-effects

Hope this helps you in the right direction Paul, have a great day & good luck with your project! 🌝
