Client Website Project
-
Hi everyone,
I'm pretty new to Lay Theme, and I have only developed my WordPress website with Lay Theme, but I'm a big fan!One of my clients asked me to work on a new design for their website. They are using already WordPress and have a domain they want to keep, but I don't have access to the hosting of their website. Now I wanted to kindly ask for advice from some more experienced lay theme users. ^^
Do you think it would be the best solution to buy a new domain and webspace, which I can use in the future also for other clients (and move the new website when it's finished to their web space)? Or do you have other suggestions or experiences on how you are designing new websites for your clients?
I'm sorry if there is already a thread about this; I couldn't find one for now. Every helpful tip would be highly appreciated, and I hope you are all doing great in these crazy covid times!
All the best ^^

Dear @5a5uke
Best wishes, hope you are well ✨
I hope i understand your questions correctly and therefore give a good answer 🌝
Having your own domain is always good, especially if you are working through designs (and plan to be doing this more in the future). The great thing about having a domain is that sub-domains are usually free!
This would mean that your main domain e.g
Can have a number of subdomains attached.
So say you have three clients that you are designing websites for currently E,g
- Burgundy Bags
- Environment First
- Speedy Swimwear
You only would pay for one domain (waterfall.com) and have threes subdomains to show your clients:
When you are ready to move your website over the the Clients true domain you can follow the steps outlined here:
Please note that Lay Theme does not work on Wordpress.com hosting (this is a seperate service to wordpress the CMS installation).
This may help:
Have a wonderful day @5a5uke & talk soon
Richard
