Critical error after activating the theme in WP

I installed the LAY theme yesterday and I can not activate it. The installation works, but when I activate the template, a wordpress error message appears (Critical error ...) and I can no longer log into wordpress.
I can then delete the theme in the FTP, as described in the forum, but with a new installation it is the same. Plugins do not exist yet, the wordpress installation is pretty 'fresh'. Thanks for your support.

Hey! I get exactly the same problem as PiaZ. I have just "bought" a Lay Theme Free Version and when I activate the theme I get a Critical error... Can you help please?

I run a debug log and found this error:

[24-Mar-2023 15:59:39 UTC] PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '?' in /home2/estufadesign/anansesem.org/wp-content/themes/lay/assets/plugins/post-duplicator-polylang/includes/class-post-duplicator-polylang.php on line 162

sorted it out through other forum thread:

u need to use a different php version

you need at least php 7

you can set your php version in your webhost control panel
