Background colour overrides html class or Id

Hi
I'm trying to build a page where I need to layer things on the z axis and I'm using css for that, but when I apply any colour to the page or row as a background, the element with the id applied to it isn't visible anymore.Any tips around why this is happening and how to fix?

Before you post:
Use the Search Feature. Maybe there is already a solution to your issue.
1. Update Lay Theme and all Lay Theme Addons
2. Disable all Plugins
3. Go to Lay Options → Custom CSS & HTML, click "Turn Off All Custom Code ", click "Save Changes"
4. When using a WordPress Cache plugin, disable it or clear your cache.
