    Hello!

I have been reworking a website page for mobile view, and have run into an issue with the page loading painfully slow now that we've added more video project thumbnails to the site. This seems to be an issue throughout the site since the new update where lazyloading video thumbs has been disabled

    Screenshot 2023-11-01 at 11.50.19 AM.png

but it's especially evident on this page that I'm focused on building out for mobile at the moment (page is hidden from main site nav, i think my scripts are also weirdly affecting desktop thumb autoplay here atm) https://erynnlamont.com/index-2/

I've added a few scripts to the page, including removing preloading from all videos with JS, and having them all paused with JS, unless it's the active thumbnail-wrap via gsap scrolltrigger. I'm still having issues with the initial page load, until my mobile browser caches the page and speeds up load. i'm curious if there's any additional script or anything i can add just so that initial page load can not be reliant on the videos, esp with the lazy load disabled for project thumbnails? or can i use any specific script to bring back project thumb lazyload to this site? that's basically what the entire site is comprised of, and i'm not sure what other solutions I can try.. SOS!

bumping this thread– i'm wondering.. if there's possibility to add a back end option in laytheme where video thumbs are entirely disabled / not loaded at all on mobile?

        hey there!

eventually i figured out there was something wrong with my iphone altogether.
it didn't load any html5 videos anymore until i updated my iphone.

the next lay theme update will revert to lazyloading videos!!

this way you wouldn't need your custom code anymore right?

will release the update later today!

thank you so much armin! i just went through another round of page updates. i kept some of that custom code so videos only play when they're triggered by gsap scrolltrigger, so they hopefully don't overwhelm phone memory with too many vid thumbs playing at once... hoping it works well on most devices :)

hey so if u update lay theme now

html5 videos will only load when you scroll to them
if lay options → "lazyloading" is enabled

i disabled this behaviour one or two years ago because it didn't work well on iphones but now it seems to work quite well

also autoplaying videos only play when they are in view, that behaviour i coded for lay theme as well

so maybe you don't need your custom js anymore

                try this setting:

in lay options → imagehover addon:
enable "dont hide image when mouse leaves link"

                if you like!

for that page maybe it would make sense:
