  • search: option to spec # columns or max-width constraint
    U ua
    Dec 2, 2023, 8:34 PM

    Yes(!)

    1. to "lazyloading of images enabled" — Check: already enabled but mindful of lag-time for those with weaker connections, mobile/roaming etc + it hurts to know each thumb is nearly double the size it needs to be just because i'd like to use the Search function. Just sayin' ;)
    2. to "writing it down" — Please do(!) + consider it would offer possibilities to people who would prefer a search-driven site but currently not adopting that design route due to limitations with the feature

    Much appreciated.

    Hello —

    I’m having a bi-polar relationship with my THUMBNAIL imgs in relation to your SEARCH feature: On the one hand trying to keep file sizes to a minimum resolution that display nicely across my site, however end up with an unacceptable low-image-res in the 4-col/full-width search layout; Or increasing thumb size, resulting in increased load on thumbnail-heavy pages/sections. Hmm, what to do?

    Towards helping to solve this dilemma and further empowering the Search feature, I’d like to suggest the following:

    1. To provide an option for specifying the # of columns on the Search page
    2. To allow for a constraint of the max-width of the Search page

    Crossing fingers you’ll consider it. I’d love to see the Search function empowered more as it’s a sweet way towards minimising filtering(+) components on a page. Note: the forum yielded no results or issues along this line from what i could find; of course, open to any workarounds/suggestions if I’ve missed something.

    Many thanks again, U.

    @arminunruh — LAY Updated to:
    Lay Theme Version: 6.4.5 / Lay Theme ImageHover Version 1.3.5
    Wordpress to 6.4.1 (updated from previous version but it made no difference)
    Chrome Version 119.0.6045.123

    Summary: the problem has only shown up after most recent plugin update, and still remains only when ImageHover is used through ADD TEXT > LINK > SET HOVER IMAGE in a text block.

    Apologies I'm unable to submit links as instructed since the problem is behind a wall (site not yet public). I'd hoped it might show up in your testing but if not then I'm ok to put this thought on hold until it's closer to site release time here. Hope this helps to explain at least. Best i can do for now.

    Many thanks.

    I've just updated the newest plugin and suddenly the images no longer float above (as spec'd) but rather display underneath text elements. As far as I can tell here it seems confined to isolated links only; I'm also using the feature with Project Index which seems immune and functioning perfectly. Tested on desktop only for now. Kind regards, U.

    @alasdair17 — thank you!
    I see it now. I had looked in the top toolbar and somehow completely missed it in the side menu. Apologies for the inconvenience and many thanks for the quick reply/instruction. All best.

    Hey LAY!

    Your ELEMENT GRID is such a welcome/useful utility but could also be such A MORE POWERFUL TOOL if images within would also link to posts(!)

    Possible?

    In an intuitive world the viewer should be able to click on the image directly to link thru, especially when using the element grid in conjunction with basic images on a page (which actually can/do link(!)) … otherwise it's a confusing landscape to merge the two and so even the basic affordance/function gets scrapped out of necessity. Note: I'm currently adding an extra sidebar of link-text details (it's ok, but not an elegant solution + distracting from flow) + i did try and adapt my working grid to a larger divisible number so that on that page there could be more columns to work with but unfortunately the system wouldn't allow it (prob. related to responsive + margin/gutter combo (?)) Unfortunately, I'm already too invested in current layout to rethink this component hence the sidebar strategy.

    In summary: what i love about your template is that it it's clean, flexible, user-friendly, intuitive and efficient. To those ends, I hope you'll consider this suggestion.

    Kindest thanks, U.

    Your Project Index feature is fantastic(!) and already saving so much manual entry time. Love it.

    However when using the Project Index with Image Hover Addon option checked and then nested into a Stack on a Page, the image hover doesn't work. The odd thing is: as soon as I place a second Project Index into a separate row on the same page (without the stack) then suddenly they BOTH work (??!!)

    Generally I try not to load up and/or nest too many features at a time but I would like to add a single line of text below the index in the same column. Hacking it for the time-being by adding an empty (hidden) Index somewhere on the page; not ideal, but it seems to work.

    Kindest thanks, U.

    Hello — I've looked but can't seem to find, and so assume there is no strikethrough option available. Please advise if I'm missing something, or if you have plans to add the feature any time soon(?) Many thanks + your theme is brilliant! U.
