the reason is its not possible to set a category page as the frontpage with the normal wordpress way. and with the way i coded it for laytheme, you can also set the category page as a frontpage.

Ah, of course! I can use a 6-column layout—2/6 for the 3-column setup and 3/6 for the 2-column one. Apologies for not thinking of this earlier, probably just need a bit more sleep. ;)

Thanks, Armin! Option 2 from the first link worked for me. Specifically, this approach: Do not select both the parent AND subcategory. When editing the post, choose only the child category (subcategory) you want it to be listed under. Note: The other method doesn’t seem to work—I can’t set one of the categories as Primary. That would feel like the most logical way to me. Is this something you could consider for a future update, or is there a setting I need to adjust myself? Specifically, this approach: Alternatively, you can select both the Parent AND Child category but you will need to make the child category marked as primary.

Thanks @arminunruh , the CSS targeting the overlay did the trick, although it's not super smooth it's a big improvement! I'm sure there's a way to fine tune it with JS but that's probably beyond my skill level. Many thanks!

hey! you can set the frontpage in customize → frontpage that page will then be shown when people go on shop.de !
