Multiple Images for Project Thumbnails? (Not a mouseover effect)

Hi,

I was wondering how it would be possible to have multiple images as the project thumbnail? (Not necessarily a mouseover effect.) For example, this site: http://www.dominicbrandt.de / They are able to get two different images for each project thumbnail, so I'm curious how I would go about that.

you can make a carousel which is moving automatically and then link to a project.
