Individual meta descriptions without plugin

Hi Armin & Marius,

is it possible to define meta descriptions for projects and sites individually without plugin?

It's about the text in the google SERP snippet, I know there's no way to control it, perhaps the meta descriptions could affect it for a better Click-Through-Rate.

Yoast and other plugs seems to be very unstable with laytheme, I keep reading that. I'm a photographer, that's not my subject. But is there a way with custom html, handmade code or something else to solve it?
