Lay Theme does not update when installed in subfolder

My client requested to have a new page installed in a subfolder.
First I tried Wordpress multisite, which was a bit wonky in general.
I realized there, that after inserting the license key the theme wouldn't search or find updates, because I was still running 2.4.1.So I created a fresh Wordpress instance inside of a subfolder, but lay still doesn't like to update.
For now I can switch the key to a wordpress installation on root, update the theme, download the zip and install on the real page. But it would be nice, if it could get fixed.

Before you post:
- When using a WordPress Cache plugin, disable it or clear your cache.
- Update Lay Theme and all Lay Theme Addons
- Disable all Plugins
- Go to Lay Options ā Custom CSS & HTML, click "Turn Off All Custom Code", click "Save Changes"
