More than 4 columns on project index

I was looking this website https://juliangalay.com/
And the question is... how is made that?

I mean, I had only Title, Categories, Tags, Years columns... that website has like 6 columns...

it seems that he coded his frontpage by himself.
the frontpage is his own html code and its not lay theme.
but all the other subpages are made with lay theme

if you put a index.html file into your wordpress folder, it will load this file as the frontpage
