Password protected page makes the whole website password protected
-
hey!
i made a password protected page for my exhibition and put it in a different category than the "work" category, which shows all my projects. "work" is set as my front page, but still, if i just put in my url (http://julia-ruppert.de/) it wants me to put in the password, and after i do, it opens up the exhibition page. if i try the different categories as front pages in the customizer menu, it also previews all of them as password protected. but it's really just the one page that has password protection! I already tried making different categories, but it doesn't help.
i can't see where the problem is, i hope somebody might have an idea. thank you! -
Hey Julia!
Okay, that's weird. I would need to take a closer look. As far as I know, only the page that is password protected should get this password protection screen. I never saw this happen before.

Hi @arminunruh
I’m seeing a similar unexpected password prompt behavior on a category page that is not password protected.
Expected:
The Projects category page should load publicly without the needing a password. Only specific individual projects are password-protected.Actual:
Directly loading the Projects page (when landing as frontpage or when clicking on the projects tab) shows a password prompt. The same also happens when refreshing the page.Navigating to 'Other' page/tab first and then clicking “Projects” works fine.
URL:
https://sunilvallu.com/category/projects/Setup:
- Projects are posts in a projects category
- Some individual projects are password-protected
- Category page itself is not protected
- First project on the page is public
- Problem occurs regardless of the browser.
Is this a known issue, or is there a recommended way in Lay to exclude password-protected projects from category pages?
Thanks,
Sunil -
