custom column amount in rows?
-
Hi all, possibly a dumb question here… can I change the amount of columns in each row on a page? For example I'd like to have 2 columns on row A (for 2 project thumbnails), followed by 3 columns on row B below (for 3 project thumbnails). So the option for odd or even columns in rows? Many thanks!

Ahh, I think I may have figured this out, by using an Element Grid and inserting 3 columns and 3 project thumbnails! Happy to be told otherwise if there is a better way to do this? Thanks!

Yeah, you’re basically on the right track already.
Lay doesn’t really support “mixed column counts” in a single grid row by default, so the usual way is exactly what you did: just stack different Element Grids on top of each other.
So for your case:
- First grid → 2 columns (row A)
- Second grid → 3 columns (row B)
That gives you full control and keeps things clean.
If you want more flexibility later (like different layouts on mobile), you can also tweak each grid’s responsive settings separately.
Your solution is pretty much the standard approach 👍
