speed: firefox vs chrome
-
hey!
first of all, thanks for creating this amazing theme. i've been hearing about it for years and it's so really so amazing!!i have just a little problem. somehow my site loads up wayy slower on firefox then on chrome. is that an expected behaviour? i think firefox can be a little slow sometimes, but i feel like the difference is huge on my site.
if somebody has the time to check it out: marcikola.com
edit: it is more obious on the projects page: https://marcikola.com/projects/thanks in advance.

thanks a lot!!
such a large speed difference is not expected.
could you please test the projects page in a private Firefox window with extensions disabled? also temporarily disable plugins and custom code and clear all caches. please let me know your Firefox version and whether the slowdown happens during the initial page load or during page transitions. a short screen recording would also help.

and is it the site itself thats loading slow for you or just the videos?

okay, so how did you include the videos? Did you think about using Bunny CDN and including the videos as HLS?
Using Bunny for uploading your videos is actually pretty cool because it's not that expensive. It's kinda cheap. Also, it will always load the videos from servers that are close to the person who visits your website.
If you use the HLS format, it will even go a step further and load the video only in the resolution that is needed at the moment. For example, on a phone, a lower resolution will be loaded, so it's gonna be a smaller file size. On a big desktop screen, a bigger video will be loaded. I would recommend you try that.
Everywhere in Lay Theme where you can put a video, you can usually click some checkbox that says "External video". There, you can paste the URL that you get from the HLS video when you upload your video to Bunny, or you can just use the MP4 or URL of Bunny. You don't have the upside of it being a different size depending on the browser width or device type.

ah cool, didn't know that yet, seems it would only cost about a dollar per month?! sounds good!
so far i just uploaded the mp4 to media and then used them as video thumbnails. do you think gifs would be faster? i think i could also reduce their quality quite a bit. but atm it seems to be good, somehow deleting the cache worked wonders.

hey, please check the pricing on their website.
no dont use gifs I think GIFs are the worst thing you can do. Quality and file size-wise, it's just the worst and oldest thing that you can do.
