my +1 was for the original post:
carousel caption not showing on my frontend (does show in backend), no problems with captions for individual images, so workaround is to add carousel caption to every individual image…

yes. In the carousel you need to add the captions manually.
It does not take the original image captions.

I wrote that down for the future.
