    Hi Armin,

after updating Lay Theme from 11.5.1 to 11.8.6, the per-language front pages on our Polylang site stopped working. We rolled back to 11.5.1 and everything works again. Before we update again, we'd like to know the recommended setup for the current version.

    Setup

    • WordPress 7.0.2, Polylang 3.9.1 (latest), Yoast SEO, Lay Theme Carousel 3.2.2
    • 4 languages: DE (default), EN, FR, ES, home URLs /en/, /fr/, /es/
    • Front pages linked as translations in Polylang: Startseite (DE), Home (EN, ID 293), Page d'accueil (FR, ID 296), Página de inicio (ES, ID 298)
    • Front page set via Settings → Set Frontpage to "Startseite"
    • Settings → Reading left on "Your latest posts", as recommended in the forum
    • wp-content/polylang/wpml-config.xml registers theme_mods_lay → frontpage_select_page, with the page ID per language in Polylang's string translations

What happened after updating to 11.8.6

    • /fr/, /en/ and /es/ showed the German front page content, while the menu was correctly translated
    • Clicking a language in the switcher loaded /startseite/ instead of the translated front page
    • The Yoast home title and description were output in German on /fr/, although they are translated in Polylang
    • Side note: an H1 with nested <strong> tags rendered noticeably bolder in Chromium browsers than before

According to the version history, 11.8.6 includes "Fixed issue with latest Polylang plugin version", which is the only Polylang-related change since 11.5.1. Lay Theme 11.5.1 works correctly with Polylang 3.9.1 on this site, so the issue seems to be specific to the Polylang change in 11.8.6.

    Questions

    1. What exactly was changed regarding Polylang in 11.8.6?
    2. Is there now a native way to set a front page per language, and does it conflict with the wpml-config.xml / frontpage_select_page approach?
    3. What setup do you recommend so we can update safely?

    Thanks and best regards
    Munir

hm hm it seems like polylang's latest update changed quite a lot, so it broke that compatibility

will be fixed with the next lay update!
