Http Error when uploading media

Im pretty new to wordpress/website building in general but have been loving laytheme so far.

I have this crippling issue that wont allow me to upload anymore media to my webpage, i get the following http error on 95% of the images that i try to upload.

Ive been searching everywhere for a solution but cant find anything that actually works, ive tried altering the functions php by adding text that i found on the wordpress, and also attempted increasing the php memory of my server.

Im designing locally using MAMP on my mac if that makes a difference!and using chrome??
