Supply a PDF file for download

I want to supply a PDF file for download. I could not find any instructions on this in the documentation. I could successfully create a link to my pdf file, But the entire pdf now opens in an extra tab. I shows only the first page of the PDF and I can not download it from there. I want the visitor to be able to download the pdf. Can anyone help me with this?

@jhc sounds like totally normal browser behaviour. If you want to trigger a direkt download just make it a zip. Most Browsers open PDFs in a new tab as preview nowadays.
