maybe because you work with a child theme.If you use child themes or edit the actual theme, updates might break the website.

Is there any major reason you are using a child theme?
If «No…» I’d recommend to use lay as is and add custom code if you so desire. Child themes are a tricky thing.
I worked with child themes some years ago and it alway became a real pain sooner than later. -

Before you post:
- When using a WordPress Cache plugin, disable it or clear your cache.
- Update Lay Theme and all Lay Theme Addons
- Disable all Plugins
- Go to Lay Options → Custom CSS & HTML, click "Turn Off All Custom Code", click "Save Changes"

- Post a link to where the problem is
- Does the problem happen on Chrome, Firefox, Safari or iPhone or Android?
- If the problem is difficult to explain, post screenshots / link to a video to explain it
