Carousel Add-On: Prev/Next on linked images

Hi there,
I want to use the carousel add-on as a project slider on my homepage. It seems like the custom prev/next buttons are getting blocked, as soon as I link an image.
This seems reasonable to me, since two functions cannot take place at the same position. Anyways, is there a smart solution?
For example, that prev/next are displayed only at the edge of the image and you're able to activate the link via click in the middle area?Prev/Next outside the image or fixed on the image are unfortunately no options in my case.

you mean cursors right? not buttons
well at the moment you can only add buttons or dots below
